Human Centered Design Consultant, CGI
Post-Its, Parenting and the Power of Human Creativity
We dedicate our working days to creating and crafting better experiences for others. But how often do we apply the same rigorous approach to our own lives?
This talk explores what happens when you do.
Over the past nine years, Paul Bailey, better known as The Design Thinking Dad, has been on a transformative personal journey. Evolving from a ‘Digital Designer’ trapped by traditional waterfall delivery, to a ‘Design Thinker’ thriving in fast-paced ‘Agile’ environments.
Along the way, he realised something unexpected: the tools and creative approaches he uses to help teams navigate ambiguity at work are just as powerful when applied at home.
In this talk, he’ll share how, armed with nothing more than an ample stash of post-it notes, he’s using design mindsets in his professional life to empower teams to deliver at pace and in his personal life to tackle one of life’s toughest and messiest challenges: raising kids.
About Paul
Paul Bailey (a.k.a. Design Thinking Dad) is a Human Centered Design Consultant at CGI, co-host of Service Designers Connect and a full time human-maker (father of 4).
With over 25 years’ experience designing digital products and services, Paul has worked across public and private sectors, including UK government and healthcare. He is currently working with the NHS to help make health and social care more accessible for the people of Scotland.
A self-confessed Typothermiac and a bit of a geek, when he’s not thinking about human-centred design, he’s experimenting with ways to entertain his children while quietly trying to robot-proof them for the fourth industrial revolution.
